Ouch! From the ALTNET Mailing List

Someone suggested to use DotNetNuke for the community site for ALT.NET and I heard this reply:

I'd rather chew glass.

Ouch!

DotNetNuke does have a lot of flexibility and generally buys you a lot, but I don’t find it a joy to work with at all.  Especially the OOB experience is just nasty.

Not Only Is The Experience Nasty, But All The Dialog/Error Messages Are Written Like This. Seriously, "I'd rather chew on glass" is almost being too nice.

It can be painful, but it has helped me on a number of occasions, pre asp.net 2.0 and when I was not aware of the open source projects that could be used to get the same level of functionality.

It has also helped me pay the bills for the past year, yes, I chew glass for a living!

Keep in mind that the person who wrote that response to you also gets a lot of enjoyment from chewing glass.

Nonetheless DNN SUXXORS

Someone mentioning it was actually me :)

The idea was to actually do something with the site... even if it means starting with DNN, and later if can get around to programm something... then program it...

I agree that DNN has it's bad points (there are bad and there are REALLY BAD ones), but one cannot argue that it has also it's good points, and that it brings value to the table... as everything in life... it's up to us to see if we can make use of the good ones, and try to get over the bad ones.

Btw. I've chewed glass with it as well, and that for a couple of years :) But would lie if I said that I didn't have some good times as well.

This is great! One question: Is there any way around the authentication issue? I have a portal which requires a login/password. Am I out of luck? --thanks
